Bluffton's town-run holiday season for 2026 happens in two places. The Jingle Stroll, the Tree Lighting and the 55th Christmas Parade all fall between Thursday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 5, in Old Town. Free ice skating, a craft fair, a Santa visit and a Nutcracker evening fill the following two weekends at New Riverside, on the opposite side of town.
From the Hampton Hall entrance on Buckwalter Parkway, the two centers are roughly the same drive. That leaves crowds and timing as the real difference. Old Town fits its season into three consecutive days. New Riverside spreads its events over ten days.
Two drives from one gate
The Hampton Hall Club's directions page gives 1 Hampton Hall Blvd as the GPS address for the entrance, on Buckwalter Parkway. Here is what Google Maps routing showed in early November from that address to each holiday center.
| Destination | Route | Time | Distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Martin Family Park, 68 Boundary St., Old Town | Buckwalter Pkwy and SC-46 E/May River Rd | 11 min | 5.4 miles |
| Martin Family Park, alternate | Bluffton Parkway | 12 min | 5.6 miles |
| New Riverside Barn, 30 Red Barn Dr. | SC-46 W/May River Rd | 13 min | 7.6 miles |
| New Riverside Barn, alternate | Wicklow Dr and SC-46 W/May River Rd | 13 min | 6.3 miles |
| New Riverside Barn, alternate | Bluffton Parkway and SC-170 W | 13 min | 7.1 miles |
The two centers are about two minutes apart on paper, and those times change with traffic. Both directions use May River Road for part of the drive. The New Riverside route heads west on SC-46, and the Old Town route heads east on it. The bigger difference is what you'll find when you park.
Old Town packs its season into three days
The Town of Bluffton's Oct. 20, 2026, holiday release puts the start of the season in the Historic District, and the Old Town Bluffton Merchants Society schedules its stroll the night before. That makes three events on back-to-back days:
- Thursday, Dec. 3, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Jingle Stroll in Old Town, organized by the Old Town Bluffton Merchants Society.
- Friday, Dec. 4, 5:30 p.m. The Town Tree Lighting at Martin Family Park, 68 Boundary St., where Santa makes his first stop. Next comes Santa's Workshop at the DuBois Park pavilion, followed by an outdoor showing of "The Muppet Christmas Carol" at 6:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. The 55th annual Bluffton Christmas Parade steps off and winds through the Historic District.
Because everything happens so close together, the logistics matter more than the drive. According to the Bluffton Journal's parade guide, parking along the parade route is not allowed from 7 a.m. on Dec. 5. The Town also expects closures on Old Town streets and plans to post the route and detours closer to parade day. The Town's release says both the Tree Lighting and the parade go on rain or shine. They are canceled only if conditions are unsafe, and a canceled parade will not be rescheduled.
If you'd rather skip the parking, the Bluffton Journal reports that the parade will be broadcast on The County Channel. WSAV's Andrew Davis and Town spokeswoman Debbie Szpanka will announce the entries from the judges' stand.
Anyone thinking of entering a float, a club group or a decorated golf cart should apply by Friday, Nov. 13, the last day to apply under the Town's release. The parade is capped at 125 entries, first come, first served, and paper applications are available at the Welcome Center, 111 Calhoun St. There is no entry fee. Instead, the Town asks entrants to donate to the Mayor's Stay Safe, Bluffton! Scholarship Fund, which the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry manages.
New Riverside spreads the rest over ten days
Six days after the parade, the Town's calendar moves west. The same release lists four New Riverside events, and together they cover more of December than Old Town does.
Santa at New Riverside Barn, Friday, Dec. 11, 4 to 7 p.m. The Bluffton Journal's holiday roundup gives the Barn's address as 30 Red Barn Drive. On the Town's facility page, the Barn is an enclosed, air-conditioned event hall of 2,664 square feet with a patio, courtyard, firepit and pavilion.
Bluffton on Ice, Dec. 11 through Dec. 20. Skating on synthetic ice at the New Riverside Event Lawn is free, loaner skates come in all sizes, and food trucks are on site whenever the rink is open. Ten days of skating means a visit doesn't have to compete with a crowded weekend. It can fit around a tee time or a weekday when grandchildren are in town. The Town directs visitors to townofbluffton.sc.gov for full schedules and updates, so check the rink hours there before you head out.
Merry & Made Holiday Craft Fair, Sunday, Dec. 13, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local vendors sell handmade crafts and holiday gifts on the New Riverside Event Lawn. This falls during the skating run, so one afternoon can cover both.
The Nutcracker and Sugar Plum Fairy's Sweet Soirée, Saturday, Dec. 19. Okatie Youth Ballet performs scenes from "The Nutcracker" at New Riverside Barn from 5 to 6 p.m. The soirée follows from 6 to 7 p.m., with photos with the ballerinas and light refreshments. The Town asks guests to bring chairs or blankets.
New Riverside also has a new dinner option. Cafe Al Dente, the Hilton Head Italian restaurant, opened a second location this fall at 303 Parkside Commons, Suite 103, in New Riverside Village, according to Eat It & Like It. Skating followed by pasta makes an evening that stays on the west side of town.
The season's last Town Santa visit goes back to the Historic District. Pictures with Santa run Thursday, Dec. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Town of Bluffton Welcome Center, 111 Calhoun St. On a weeknight, Old Town is a much calmer stop than it is on parade weekend.
The island side of the calendar starts sooner
The Bluffton events don't start until December, but the Hilton Head Island events that many Bluffton households add to their season begin in November. They also give the weeks before the Old Town weekend something to do.
- Saturday, Nov. 14, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina holds its free Holiday Kick-Off Festival on the Arts Center grounds. Shelter Cove's calendar lists the Town of Hilton Head Island as the sponsor.
- Monday, Nov. 23, through Thursday, Jan. 7, 2027. Shelter Cove Towne Centre's Holiday Lights & Tree display is up. Towne Centre merchants supply the tree and lights, according to its calendar of events.
- Friday, Nov. 27. Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina holds Santa and Shopping Day from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Santa arrives by fire truck at noon. That evening, Harbour Town Lights at The Sea Pines Resort begins with the official tree lighting just before the 7:30 p.m. Gregg Russell Concert. The lights stay on daily through Jan. 1, 2027.
- Nov. 27 and 28, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Santa visits Shelter Cove Towne Centre. More Towne Centre visits follow on Dec. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m., with pet visits benefiting HH Humane, and on Dec. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The island lights come first in late November, Old Town gets one concentrated weekend in early December, and New Riverside carries most of the middle of the month.
